Annual Maplewood NJ Events You Do Not Want to Miss!

There are lots of good reasons why people love living in Maplewood. One reason they love to live in the town is that there are many things to do in Maplewood, New Jersey. While some towns have one or two cultural activities a year, Maplewood’s calendar of events is full. Here are some of the Maplewood events you will not want to miss.

Maplewood NJ Festivals

One Maplewood festival you don’t want to miss happens at the beginning of the year: the MLK Silent Peace March. The march has been a middle school tradition for many years. Hundreds of students from Maplewood Middle School march silently down the street the Friday before Martin Luther King Day. The entire Maplewood community supports them and comes out to watch the march.

Maplewood Arts and Culture

In March, the South Orange Performing Arts Center hosts a weekend SOMA Film Festival. The festival features narrative films and documentary filmmaking. It features local filmmakers and there are also programs for local filmmakers. Some of the programs are for children and families. There are panel discussions with producers and directors. Film industry professionals have networking opportunities as well.

The Best-Known Maplewood NJ Street Fair

The largest street fair in Maplewood happens in May. The street fair has local businesses, artists, and craft vendors. The fair is completely family-friendly, with lots of activities for the kids. These include face painting, pony rides, and an awesome petting zoo. There are also food vendors and music. What a great way to spend a weekend!

Multicultural Event

One of the most significant multicultural events takes place in June. Maplewood Village is the host of the Community Coalition on Race, sponsored the X-Roots Fest, and it has become trendy. The festival highlights cultures from four continents through music, dance, storytelling, food, and vendors. The X-Roots Fest prides itself on the interactive mindset of the festival — so everyone can participate!

In June, the Maplewood Village Alliance also sponsors an evening festival honoring women. The Girls Night Out Festival allows women to eat, drink, talk, and shop in the village. What a great way to spend time with your closest friends!

Summer Love

Several festivals in June and July make Maplewood the place to be in the summer. First, the town has the Artist Studio Tour in June. The studio tour celebrates artists from the Maplewood area. It is a self-guided tour through several buildings in the town. Local bands play as well, so it is a great weekend to kick off the summer. Also in June, Maplewood holds the North Jersey Pride Festival. This is a family-friendly event of music, art, and merchants. It has a food court and a rainbow kids zone.

Another summer festival that has become more and more popular each year is Maplewoodstock. The festival began small over a decade ago. It has now expanded into a celebration with hundreds of vendors and musicians. Although thousands of people attend the festival weekend, most of the artists and musicians are from the Maplewood area.

This is just a small sampling of festivals in Maplewood Village. There is always something to do in the town, which means you and your family should not be bored. If you love having weekends full of culture, art, and other activities, this is the perfect town for you.
