Nicknamed the Rose City, Madison has a lot to offer for those who want to make the move and build a beautiful life in this quaint town. The borough of Madison, NJ, has activities for every season.

Spring

The Taste of Madison opens the spring season. More than 30 restaurants from the Madison area bring the best of their food and beverages for people to sample. What a great way to try out something — or someplace — new!

If you have a family, you may want to go to the Easter Fun Fest. Children can gather Easter eggs from downtown merchants. There are games and prizes for children. They can visit with the Easter bunny and get their picture taken with him. Many families have pictures of their children in their Easter best with the Easter bunny on their mantels.

Do you like beautification or service activities? May Day in Madison is a service day for residents. Each year, hundreds of people gather to clean up and repair areas, such as parks and other public spaces. Residents say this is a great way to get to know your neighbors and participate in civic activities.

Summer

Summer brings a host of new activities for the Madison community. Memorial Day kicks off with a parade of remembrance, speakers, and a ceremony to honor the military. There is also a Revolutionary Ramble bicycle tour to commemorate the area’s contribution to the Revolutionary War. You can choose a 12-, 25-, 35-, 45-, or 65-mile tour.

The Giralda Music and Arts Festival in June is on the grounds of Giralda Farms. This was the home of the Dodge family. Dozens of art, music, crafts, and food vendors flank a magnificent outdoor concert venue. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra provides the music.

Madison also has a Sidewalk Art Gallery and Gala in June. Local artists exhibit their original art during the festival. The gala also sells artwork during the event. Not only do you get to dress up and look nice for an evening, but you also get to buy original art.

There is also a magnificent Farmer’s Market during the summer. Every Thursday afternoon, you can journey down to Central Avenue and sample local produce. The Farmer’s Market is a great way to support New Jersey farmers. In addition to the farmer’s market, the downtown area has a concert series every Friday night. You can hear all kinds of music, from rock and folk to the blues and jazz. You can bring the whole family.

Fall

Fall kicks off in Madison with a walking tour of downtown for new Drew University students. This is a great tradition where freshmen get to meet business people and the borough of Madison staff. In October, Madison’s biggest event, Bottle Hill Day, draws tens of thousands of people to the town. There are exhibits, fun for kids, crafts, vendors, and all kinds of community activities. It’s a day of fun for the entire community. Madison also hosts a family event called Halloween Hoopla. Children trick-or-treat at local businesses, and there is a magic show, as well as a parade for families.

Winter

The Friday after Thanksgiving has the Madison Holiday Arts Festival, with exhibits and performances in the downtown area. There is also a holiday parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving, with a Christmas tree lighting. The downtown area has a visit from Santa, with extended shopping hours and live Christmas music.
