The Borough of Madison is a small, suburban community in southeast Morris County that borders five other municipalities: the boroughs of Florham Park (NFL Jets corporate headquarters and training facility) and Chatham are to the north and east; the townships of Chatham, Harding and Morris are to the south and west. Morristown and Summit are nearby, to the northwest and southeast, respectively.
Madison is known for having a great public school system and a charming downtown with its many restaurants, cafes, shops and a movie theater.
Madison’s quaint, college town feel extends throughout the borough with early century colonials, tree lined streets and beautiful georgians. Builders have found made their mark throughout the town, especially in The Hill section with luxury properties over $2,000,000+
There are many townhomes available including the beautiful Madison Commons, Rosewood, Green Village and newly constructed Westminster at Madison.
Some of the neighborhoods include: Fairwoods, Ardsleigh, Shadylawn, Knollwood, Kensington and one of my favorites, Academy Road with its own association and events.
Madison has one of the most beautiful stone train stations, nearly 100 years old. It is a 45-60 minute commute on the NJ Transit Midtown Direct Train to Penn Station in NYC. There are three parking lots near the train station: a 73-space lot, with parking offered at $5 a day, and two permit lots with 338 spaces total for $425 per resident per year. At each lot, parking is free after 4 p.m. Residents often use the lots while shopping or dining downtown in the evenings. Because Madison encompasses only four square miles, many commuters either walk or bike to the station.
The Madison Public Schools serve students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district consist of three elementary schools — Central Avenue School (K-6), Kings Road School (K-6) and Torey J. Sabatini School (PreK-6) — and Madison Junior School (7 and 8). Madison is served by Madison High School, which also serves the residents of neighboring Harding Township.
In Madison you’ll find one of my favorite places: the internationally renowned club Shanghai Jazz, with wonderful artists and delicious food. The New Jersey Shakespeare Theatre (on the Campus of Drew University and the outdoor Greek Theater on the campus of The College of St. Elizabeth,) the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, the Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey and a historical downtown district with 52 buildings registered with the National Register of Historic Places.
Also, Morristown’s Arts Council of the Morris Area sponsors the annual Giralda Music and Arts Festival at Giralda Farms, a corporate park housing Pfizer, Maersk, Quest Diagnostics, Prudential Real Estate Investors, Wells Fargo Insurance Services and Bausch & Lomb Global Pharmaceuticals among others.
